Rosa Villosa

£65.00

Villa Rosa began with my own photograph of Rosa villosa discovered while walking with Vera.

Also known as the apple rose, this old wild rose is recognised by its soft leaves and large, rounded hips, which ripen from orange to a rich red. Rose hips have long been gathered from the countryside for preserves, syrups and traditional remedies.

I developed the photograph through many stages, working with colour, texture, composition and movement. Layers of green, pink and red were built up around the original form, allowing some details to remain clear while others dissolve into softer washes and marks.

This is a one-of-one photographic artwork, produced once only on Hahnemühle German Etching paper. It is signed, mounted and presented in a light oak frame under real glass, ready to hang.
