A tangle of hawthorn branches reaches through the image, its dark thorns and vivid red berries emerging from layers of softened colour and movement. Some berries remain sharply defined while others seem to dissolve back into the hedge.
Hawthorn has marked Britain’s fields, lanes and boundaries for centuries. It is a tree surrounded by folklore—associated with protection, changing seasons and the uneasy meeting place between the cultivated landscape and the wild.
The Hedge Remembers began with a photograph taken while walking with Vera, my German Shepherd. It was carefully developed through colour, texture and expressive mark-making, allowing the original hedge to remain visible beneath the more fluid layers of the finished piece.
The artwork is presented in a light-oak studio frame with a clean white mount and real glass. It comes ready to hang, accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity and a personal note telling the story behind the work.
