Ancient Green began with my own photograph of a fern noticed while walking with Vera.
Ferns are among the oldest plants on Earth, flourishing long before flowering plants appeared. I developed the photograph through many attempts, working with layers of deep green, shadow, texture and light to bring out that sense of something ancient and enduring.
The finished piece remains rooted in the original photograph, while its repeated fronds and rich colour give it greater depth, rhythm and movement.
This is a one-of-one photographic artwork, produced once only on Hahnemühle German Etching paper, signed, mounted and presented in a light oak frame under real glass, ready to hang.
