A brilliant blue cornflower rises among the softer barley and meadow grasses. Its colour is almost startling against the muted greens and golds—a small wildflower that refuses to disappear quietly into the landscape.
Cornflowers were once a familiar sight in Britain’s arable fields, growing among crops such as barley, rye and wheat. Changes in farming dramatically reduced their numbers, but conservation and wildflower planting are helping to return their unmistakable blue to the countryside.
Blue Among the Barley began with a photograph taken while walking with Vera, my German Shepherd. It was carefully developed through colour, texture and expressive mark-making to create a unique, one-of-one botanical artwork.
The piece is presented in a solid light-oak frame with rounded corners, a crisp white mount and real glass. It comes ready to hang, accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity and a personal note telling the story behind the work.
Sometimes hope begins with simply noticing what is worth saving.
